We are blessed with a world class fly fishing and whitewater river here in Central Oregon. The Deschutes River originates to the south of us a few miles and flows north to the Columbia. I’ll cover fishing in a later post but for those who enjoy whitewater I would suggest checking out Sun Country Tours. I participated in one of their all day raft trips a few years ago and it was a blast!
I can’t speak from personal experience as I’ve never been here but the High Desert Museum is one of the top rated attractions in Central Oregon.
Maybe I’m getting a little carried away with things to do but I couldn’t leave out one of my favorite activities…Hiking. I do most of my hiking in the wilderness areas but there are plenty of non-wilderness areas around also. I can always supply suggestions and/or information if someone is interested in doing some hiking while in central oregon. There are also numerous websites…I’m just going to list one here for now. Visit Bend’s website has a hiking page on it.
For those who are interested in classic cars Flashback Cruz is happening during the reunion.
Central Oregon Event Productions puts on a number of free concerts as well as other events
Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo is in full swing during the reunion. Typical fair type activities and a rodeo. Also includes concerts…they haven’t posted this years artists yet but last years included “The Guess Who”, “Clay Walker”, “REO Speedwagon” and “Joan Jett and the Blackhearts”
For those of you who like the kind of transportation that you provide the leg power for Central Oregon is full of opportunities. Check out some of the following: Cascade Gran Fondo (a bike ride with biking great Chris Horner. Bike Central – Bend, Oregon Biking Events. Central Oregon Trail Alliance all things mountain biking. Bike Central Oregon Deschutes County Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee’s Bicycle Site.
I couldn’t begin to list all the things to do in our neck of the woods but a couple of the links on the sidebar cover it fairly well.
I did want to take this chance to toss out one possibility and will probably continue to offer up suggestions as time and energy permits. While we are not Sonoma or Napa counties, not even the Oregon wine country to the west of us, here is one that’s just down the road from my house a few miles and does a fair job… http://www.maragaswinery.com/
